France – Republic: Police Orphanage Savings Fund Medallion, bronze, measuring 36 mm in diameter, with the Paris mint mark and ‘BRONZE’ impressed on the rim, the obverse with a classical allegory of a woman giving alms to children, as designed by Charles Pillet, the sculptor and engraver, with the reverse bearing the embossed inscription: ‘Ophelinat Mutualiste de la Police’ (Police Mutual Orphanage) and engraved with the details of the recipient: ‘Mr. Soyaux E. 5. Fev. 1938.’ Housed in its fitted presentation case.
Condition: Nearly Extremely Fine, the case a little scuffed.
Awarded to a Mr E. Soyaux on 5 February 1938. The recipient presumably either rendered a service to the Police Orphanage Savings Fund, possibly in the capacity of a donation. The Ophelinat Mutualiste de la Police, a mutual aid organisation founded in France to support the orphans of deceased police officers.
